Star Alliance Logo PNG
Star Alliance is a global airline alliance with over 25 member airlines and a fleet of over 5,000 aircraft. The alliance was established in the spring of 1997. It is headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
Meaning and history
Star Alliance is the largest airline alliance in the world, which was established in 1997 by five influential international carriers – Lufthansa, Air Canada, SAS, Thai Airways and United Airlines. Today the Alliance consists of 25 full members and 40 non-voting ones, and the total network of flights of the Alliance member companies is 195 destination countries.
Star Alliance began to develop rapidly, and within a few months after its founding, South American carriers were attracted to the alliance. Established in May 1997, in October of the same year Star Alliance already served flights in 110 countries of the world, and the total fleet of aircraft of the alliance members amounted to 1.6 thousand units. And in 2000, the alliance launched its first business clusters in the United States, Germany, and Thailand, established the organization’s management team, and set up executive bodies.
Thus, Star Alliance became the first truly global association of airlines, offering customers flights around the world and maximum comfort in the process of service.
Today, the fleet of airplanes of Star Alliance member companies is estimated at more than 5 thousand units. Over 19 thousand flights are made by member companies per day, and flights are made to 195 countries around the world. The total annual passenger traffic of Star Alliance member companies exceeds 762 million people.
1997 – 2000
The original Star Alliance logo was designed in 1997 and stayed active for just three years. It was a realistic three-dimensional drawing of a voluminous metallic star, executed in thin strokes with nice shadowing. The image was made of several triangles of different sizes and looked like a professional geometric hand-drawn design. The was no additional lettering or framing in the composition, and the color palette was super minimalistic, composed of grayish shades and white.
2000 – Today
The Star Alliance logo was created by the Pentagram design studio. The emblem consists of the wordmark and a star made up of five pyramids. The pyramids are depicted as seen from the top. The grey gradient helps to reproduce the shades and create the 3D effect. Each of the pyramids represents one of the five founding airlines.
The name of the alliance can be seen to the left. It features a pretty generic sans serif typeface. The glyphs have classic proportions and structure.
You can also come across a version of the Star Alliance logo comprising the tagline “The way the Earth connects.” It is positioned below the words “Star Alliance” and features the same type. The size of the letters is much smaller, though, due to which they are less legible.
