The baseball team which is currently known as the Lancaster Jethawks originated in 1947 in Reno as the Silver Sox. Then there followed the Reno Padres, the Riverside Pilots, and at last the name Jethawks came into use in 1996. The Lancaster-based team (California) owes its named to the city’s aerospace industry.
Lancaster JetHawks is one of those franchises, which hasn’t managed to stay afloat after the 2020 reorganization of the MLB’s minor leagues. Unfortunately, 2020 was the last season for the club, and it finished with no significant wins. The last title was won by the team only in 2017, and it was Division One. However, throughout the years, the JetHawks became the League champions twice: in 2012 and 2014.
Its last years in the California League Lancaster JetHawks have spent as the Class A-Advanced affiliates of Colorado Rockies, yet the list of the clubs the JetHawks were related to throughout their history is quite long: apart from the Rockies, there are Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Seattle Mariners.
In terms of visual identity, the Lancaster JetHawks franchise looked very modern and interesting, with the logo resembling an image from a space-themed comic. However, the redesign of 2008 has made it look more professional and strict, with the original nostalgic charm lost.
The very first logo of the Lancaster Jethawks club was introduced in 2001. It was a bright and futuristic badge with a blue started background, and a spaceship above the main wordmark, which was written in rounded letters of a custom font, in white, with two letters, “J” and “H” enlarged and colored in calm gold. Above the large wordmark, there was a “Lancaster” inscription with white sans-serif letters placed on red vertically oriented ovals in black outlines. The thin gold “Baseball” tagline was written in a classic sans-serif, completing the image.
