Meaning and history
Hoonigan was founded by the world-famous American racing driver and showman Ken Block. The year of foundation is considered to be 2010. “Hoonigan Racing Division” was created with the purpose of Ken’s participation in racing at the world championship level. The name “Hoonigan” refers to a person who prefers aggressive driving. This term is associated with the founder of the team, known throughout the world as the most extreme rally driver of our time. The team has won numerous races. It has competed in the World Rally Championship, the Red Bull Global Rallycross Series, the World Rallycross Championship, and the American National Rally Championship. In 2014, a special tuning division was created – Hoonigan. Ken was also the author of the idea. Unfortunately, he tragically died in 2023.

2010 – Today
The logo consists of the word “Hoonigan” displayed in all capital letters with a stylized font. Thick strokes and geometric characters featured in the logo are a perfect match for the bold and aggressive races and events that are part of the Hoonigan brand. Moreover, the characters are formed from blocks, which hint at the founder’s name – Ken Block. Although there are no dynamic elements that would suggest speed and movement, the logo still looks quite impressive. To add a unique touch to the logo, the designer added square brackets on either side of the name. They framed it and made the eye focus solely on the brand name.
Font and Color
The logo features a bold, geometric font with a modern, industrial style. It looks very similar to the Gunplay-Regular font designed by Ray Larabie. The characters have straight, clean, thick strokes that are disconnected in some spots, giving it a stencil style.
The letters are rendered in black on a white background to maintain a strong contrast. Although this is a rather traditional color palette choice, black is quite a powerful color that has always been used to stand for strength, status, authority, and control. There is also some rebellious nature and aggressiveness, which are part of extreme driving. This color can also project the essence of success and accomplishment.
