Meaning and history

The history of the G4S security company began in Copenhagen in 1901. Its founder, Danish Marius Hogref, originally created the company “Kjøbenhavn Frederiksberg Nattevagt” (which translates as “Night Watch of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg”), later the company was renamed “Falck”. In 2000, the security firm Group 4, formed in the 1960s, merged with it; the new corporation was named Group 4 Falck.

In 2002, Group 4 Falck acquired Wackenhut Corporation in the United States. In 2003, Group 4 Falck management signed a specialized services contract with the Department of Immigration and Multiculturalism and Indigenous Affairs in Australia. Under this contract, Group 4 Falck assumed direct management of the detention of illegal immigrants in Australia and their placement in correctional facilities owned by its subsidiary Wackenhut and operational since 1998. In 2004, Group 4 Falck merged with Securicor, a security firm founded in 1935 in London, to form what is now G4S.

Today the G4S PMC is the largest private military company in Great Britain. According to unconfirmed data, coming from the statistics of “G4S” itself, the number of employees of this company is about 800,000 people around the world, and its annual turnover is about $ 20 billion.

In 2021 GS4 PMC was acquired by the American Allied Universal company. The company buys security, detective, and collection agencies around the world, including Africa and Australia. Also, G4S employees guard private prisons.

The red element is slanted to the left, adding dynamics and a sense of motion to the strong and stable composition.

G4S Emblem

The wordmark from the primary G4S logo is set in a custom designer typeface with no commercial analogs, however, sometimes the emblem is used with the tagline “Securing Your World”, which is set in gray title case letters in a font, similar to Gill Sans Nova Light or Humanist 521 Std Light.

As for the color palette of the G4S visual identity, it is based on the combination of black, red, and white, the shades, which represent strength, brutality, and confidence. Sometimes the logo is accompanied by the gray tagline; which balanced the aggressive look of the badge, and adds a sense of security and reliability.
