Ford Bronco is a compact frame SUV, created by Ford Motor Company and debuted in the United States in 1966. The vehicle was originally created to compete with the Jeep CJ-5, but in time its main competitor became forgotten, and a bronco is still produced by Ford.
Meaning and history
The premiere of the Ford Bronco SUV took place in the summer of 1965. The model was offered in several versions – half-cab, wagon, and roadster. The last one was unsuccessful and was produced only until 1968. It was a really practical car, simple in equipment, without unnecessary features, but at the same time adapted to various activities. The Ford Bronco was well received by customers, and although its popularity declined over the years, the car was in demand throughout production.
In all subsequent years, Ford tirelessly improved its creation. In 1970, the then-production version Ford Bronco Sport package became standard. In 1973, the car got an automatic transmission and power steering, and its base engine volume was increased from 2.8 to 3.3 liters.
The energy crisis of the 1970s had a very negative impact on the history of the Bronco, and in 1977, production of the first-generation car was discontinued. A year later, Ford introduced a new version of the model, which was much like a pickup truck F-150.
In 1980, a six-seat three-door version of the Ford Bronco made its debut in the station wagon with a removable plastic roof. In early 1983, the new compact version Ford SUV Bronco II premiered. The Interior of the new SUV was slightly smaller than its predecessor, but both models’ interior was executed in a similar style. In 1984, the Ford Bronco II has received new headlights. In ’92, the model has been restyled, and then the list of available options has been expanded. In 1992, the new Ford Bronco has been presented.
Over its thirty-year history, off-road Ford Bronco has changed four generations (according to some classifications – five). In 1997, was presented its ideological successor – the Expedition. The last update of this model was in 2014.
What is Ford Bronco?
Ford Bronco is the name of an SUV model, released by the Ford Motor Company in 1965. The model has always been super popular, and the main proof of it is that it is still being produced by the automaker. Ford Bronco can be seen in many American movies of the 1980s-1990s.
In terms of visual identity, Ford Bronco has always been loyal to its Bronco emblem, created in the middle of the 1960s, while the style of the lettering was changed several times throughout the years. Although, until 2020 one style of the typeface was prevailing — a geometric slanted script.
???? – 2020
The early versions of the Ford Bronco logo featured a composition with the emblem, where the solid black silhouette of a bucking bronco was drawn, accompanied by a script title case lettering set in bold lines. The unscripted could be seen whether in black, in silver, or in red, with a black outline.
2020 – Today
The redesign of 2020 has introduced a modernized progressive version of the Ford Bronco logo, with the emblem remaining untouched, and the lettering was completely rewritten. The new inscription features uppercase characters in an extended geometric sans-serif typeface, with heavy contours and straight cuts of the lines. It looks stable and brutal, perfectly representing the legendary SUV model.
Font and color
The extra-bold extended uppercase lettering from the primary Ford bronco logo is set in a custom geometric sans-serif font, which looks powerful and confident. The closest fonts to the one, used in this insignia, are, probably, Magnox Display Regular, or Avionic ExWide Black, with some modifications of the contours.
As for the color palette of the Ford Bronco’s visual identity, it is based on a classy timeless combination of black and white, which turned glossy silver when placed on the bonnet of the Ford cars.
