The wings and anchor on the Dockers logo were inspired by the company’s West Coast roots and maritime style. The core product, khaki pants, was based on the clothes originally worn by British longshoremen.
Meaning and history
For almost two decades since 2000, the company has been using a comparatively minimalistic logo featuring an anchor, four horizontal bars, and the name of the brand. However, in 2018, the brand reintroduced its older logo, which was somewhat more complicated. The original stencil was made by designer Milton Glaser known for his works for the “I *heart* New York” campaign. The updated label appears on all the products, from shoes to belts, wallets, and other apparel.
What is Dockers?
Dockers is a renowned fashion brand that specializes in casual clothing for men. Known for their iconic khaki pants, Dockers offers a wide range of stylish and comfortable apparel, including shirts, shorts, and accessories. With a focus on quality and versatility, Dockers is a go-to brand for those seeking timeless and effortless style.
1986 – 2000
The Dockers logo, designed in 1986 and used until the beginning of the 2000s, featured a strong and detailed badge in black and white with a massive graphical element, composed of a ln anchor with two enlarged black wings on the sides. The lettering part was arched above the emblem in a modern stencil sans-serif font, and a small narrow ribbon with the “Levi’s” wordmark was finishing the image at the bottom.
2000 – 2008
The redesign of 2000 has simplified the Docker’s visual identity, keeping its style and mood. The new badge features a more laconic composition with the solid black lettering written above the lighter and cleaner emblem with the improvised wings, made of thin horizontal lines, inscribed into the anchor badge. This version of the logo stayed active for more than eight years.
2008 – 2019
Another version of the Dockers badge was created in 2008 and stayed in use by the fashion brand for almost a decade. The composition remained the same, but the inscription part was rewritten in a more stable and professional sans-serif typeface, with no gaps between the bars. As for the graphical part, it was also refined, with the anchor becoming more classy, and the wings turning into four smooth black lines.
2019 – Today
In 2019 the brand decided to return to its logo version from the 1980s but slightly reworked its composition. Now the ornate badge with an anchor and the wings was drawn in a smaller size on the left from the bold straight inscription, set in the same stencil sans-serif typeface as on the insignia created in 1986. The logo looks memorable, powerful, and very well-balanced.
