DeepSeek is a chatbot created by a one-man Chinese company founded by hedge fund High-Flyer and introduced in 2025. DeepSeek’s neural network received reviews as “the best free AI service” right after its release, because it can not only search for information on the Internet, but also analyze texts, translate texts, describe pictures, write essays, and create code.
Meaning and history
DeepSeek is a neural network created by a development team of the same name from China. Founded in 2023 by High-Flyer hedge fund head Liang Wenfeng, DeepSeek has been working on Artificial Intelligence since its inception. In its first two years, DeepSeek updated its AI model three times, finally, by early 2025, releasing the DeepSeek V3 version, which instantly blew up the internet.
As early as January 2025, the DeepSeek app was ranked as the number one download in the AppStore and Google Play in almost all regions, with happy users calling the new product the “ChatGPT Killer”.
The main thing that makes DeepSeek unique is the scale of the model, because, first of all, it contains 671 billion parameters, which is much higher than the competition; at the same time, the cost of training was only 5.5 million dollars, while the main competitor of DeepSeek, ChatGPT, spent about 80 million dollars for the same needs. And the new model was trained in just two months on a cluster of Nvidia H800 GPUs.
Another important feature of the new chatbot is its open code, which allows developers not only to use the technology for commercial purposes but also to adapt it to solve various tasks.
So, the core capabilities of DeepSeek at the start of 2025 include: A neural network can: generate texts of different sizes and genres; search for information on the Internet; recognize text files up to 100 Mb; natural language processing; write codes and formatting them; solving complex programming problems; forecasting and modeling.
Interestingly, despite its advanced nature and ability to handle user requests and provide the necessary information most competently, DeepSeek has some limitations. 2023 – Today
The DeepSeek logo was designed for the young company right after its foundation, in 2023. The concept is based on the combination of a graphical emblem depicting a large whale and a lowercase lettering, executed in a brutal geometric sans-serif typeface, with the characters featuring open contours.
The Whale is not just a graphical representation of the “Deep” part in the name of the company, but also a symbol of wisdom. And this amazing animal is also considered to be the personification of empathy, calmness, and peace.
The stable and strong inscription here is a grounding element, that adds a sense of reliability, excellence, and professionalism.
Font and color
The bold lowercase lettering from the primary logo of DeepSeek is executed in a stylized geometric sans-serif typeface, which is based on one of the following commercial fonts: Prayuth, Ruberoid, or Soliden. But the open contours of the characters and a slightly detached triangular segment of the “K” make the inscritos unique and recognizable.
As for the color palette of the DeepSeek visual identity, it is based on a bright and vivid shade of blue, which represents the professional qualities of the chatbot, its serious approach, and trustworthiness.
