Sacred Heart Pioneers Logo PNG
The 32 sports teams competing for Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, share the same logotype and name – the Sacred Heart Pioneers.
Meaning and history
The Sacred Heart University, a prestigious private Catholic university founded in 1963, today is one of the most important centers of science in the state of Connecticut and the nation. The university is considered a Catholic institution, which implies its commitment to the Christian and humanistic tradition of mutual aid and support, educating responsible and responsive members of society.
Much attention is paid to the development of practical skills, employability, and career skills – the vast majority of graduates find prestigious and highly-paid jobs immediately after graduation. However, the university also pays great attention to sports.
The athletic program of the SHU is called Sacred Heart Pioneers and consists of 32 men’s and women’s teams, which compete in the first Division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association as a part of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The main sports disciplines of the university are Ice Hockey, Football, and Basketball, however, the program also sponsors very interesting and rare sports, such as Equestrian, Rowing, Wrestling, and Field Hockey among others.
1993
The very first logo of the Sacred Heart Pioneers was composed of an arched and shadowed “Pioneers” lettering in the uppercase of a traditional typeface with sharp and elongated serifs on the ends of the letters’ lines. The inscription was set in a dark burgundy color with a thin black outline and a light gray shadow, placed on a white background. Under the right part of the logotype, there was a graphical emblem, repeating the traditional coat of arms in the same white, burgundy, and gray color palette with the black separation lines.
2002
The redesign of 2002 placed the logotype and the crest in one line, on a gray and white horizontally stretched banner. The typeface of the wordmark was switched to bolder and more geometric one, with massive square serifs, and the additional “Sacred Heart University” lettering was added to the top line of the new logo. The color palette remained the same.
2004
In 2004 the crest became the main part of the program’s logo. Now it was enlarged and refined and had a Ted arched “Pioneers” banner placed over its middle part. The inscription was set in the uppercase of a geometric sans-serif typeface on a solid red ribbon with triangular cuts of its ends.
2013
The redesign of 2013 introduced a completely different Pioneers’ badge with the portrait of a man drawn in profile facing to the right, placed on a white background, and enclosed into a thick red circular frame with the white “Sacred Heart University” inscription in the uppercase on it, and the massive italicized geometric “Pioneers” written along the bottom line of the logo.
2014 – Today
Although the Sacred Heart Pioneers logo went through three modifications from 1993 to 2013, it retained the word “Pioneer” as one of the most visible parts. The current logo, though, doesn’t feature this word. You can only see the lettering “SHU” (the initials of the university’s name).
In terms of the palette, the logo has been pretty consistent, too. It has always featured the combination of bright red and grey as well as the white background.
