Niagara University sponsors 18 varsity level teams. While the fact that the Niagara Purple Eagles logo features a purple eagle is hardly a surprise, the way the creature is depicted makes the design unique and recognizable.
Meaning and history
To begin with, there is not the whole eagle but only the head. It is facing to the left and has a curvy outline on the neck imitating the shape of the feathers.
On the background, the block capitals “N” and “U” can be seen. The text “Niagara University Purple Eagles” is given in two lines: one of them is above the lettering, while the other is below it. The letters are hardly legible at smaller sizes.
