What is Kuwait Airways?
Kuwait Airways is the name of a Kuwait’s national carrier, a network full-service airline. The company was established in 1954, and today has a fleet of 27 aircraft, which operate flights to more than 30 destinations internationally. The air carrier has a bonus program, called Oasis Club.
1980’s – 2016
The original Kuwait Airways logo was designed at the beginning of the 1980s and stayed in use for about three decades. It was a very elegant and instantly recognizable badge, set its several levels, with the black as the main color and just one bright decorative element in two shades of blue. The upper level of the badge features an elegant black contour of the flying bird, which was facing to the left. The bird was set above four horizontal lines — black, Sky-blue, white, and dark blue, which all featured different thicknesses. Under this bright line, the inscription was set. The version of the company’s name in Arabic was set above the logotype in English, both lines were executed in very sophisticated typefaces with the letter-bars of medium thicknesses.
2016 – Today
The Kuwait Airways logo as featured on the official website is completely white with the dark blue background reminiscent of the beauty of the night sky.
The highlight of the design is a stylized bird. It is abstract and light, almost ethereal. To the right, there is the name of the airline. It is given in both Arabic (at the top) and English (below). The English version is dominated by the word “Kuwait,” while the word “Airways” is by far smaller and lighter.
Font and Color
The very elegant yet modern lettering from the primary badge of Kuwait Airways is set in the uppercase of a custom font with playfully extended ends of the bars. The closest typefaces to the one, used in this insignia, are, probably, Aligarh Medium, Meleo SemiBold, or Cicero Medium, with some modifications of the characters’ contours.
As for the color palette of the Kuwait Airways visual identity, it is based on a sleek and calm bluish scheme, with the emblem set in glossy gradients. Blue is the color of sky, a representation of freedom, flight and speed, and at the same time, it’s a shade, representing confidence, professionalism and safety.
