Five Nights at Freddy’s is a scary game that, despite its rather unusual premise, is capable of causing you to experience more than one scare. The player plays as a security guard working at the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza fast food restaurant and must survive five nights until the working days are over. However, the guard learns that the animatronic robots used as entertainment for children become active and terrorize one during the night. The player must use security cameras to track the animatronics and close doors to avoid being seen. Of course, you can only use a certain amount of electricity each night, and if it runs out… well, you’re at Freddy’s mercy.

Meaning and History

The first FNaF game was released in August 2014. It quickly gained a large fanbase due to its unique gameplay mechanics and engaging story. Since then, several sequels, spin-off games, books, and even a movie adaptation have been released. A new sequel or spin-off was made every year. One of the latest sequels, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach (2021), makes a major shift in gameplay style. It offers an open-world experience within a mall setting.

What is FNaF?
FNaF is a first-person horror game in which players get a job at the famous family pizzeria Freddy’s, where friendly robots entertain children while they eat. The problem is that the robots behave a little strangely at night and this is where the fun and horror start. The games are known for their jump scares, atmospheric tension, and intricate storytelling.

FNaF Logo

The logo design perfectly matches the horror and adrenaline driven theme of the game. The name, Five Nights at Freddy’s, is split between three lines. The letters are done in red and the dripping paint instantly creates an association with bloody scenes in the game. To further strengthen this impression, the designer made it look like something was dragged over the inscription, leaving traces of red on the white background and erasing part of the letters. This gives it a gritty, unsettling appearance. The overall design is meant to evoke a sense of fear and intrigue, drawing players into the creepy world of the game.

Font and Color

FNaF Emblem

The logo features a distressed, bold font that took fonts such as Groombridge Black font or ENVG Maleo Nova Bold font as the base. Despite a rather worn look, the inscription is easily readable thanks to thick strokes and even spacing between the characters.

The red color palette was deliberately chosen for this game. It creates a sense of suspense and nightmare. In this logo, this color is associated with blood and terrifying events. At the same time, it evokes excitement and prompts the players to try the game.
