The Binghamton Bearcats is the name of the athletic program of Binghamton University based in Binghamton, New York.
Meaning and history
The current Binghamton Bearcats logo (since 2000) depicts the Bearcat, who has been the university’s mascot since May 1999. The reason why the school chose a new mascot was that it reclassified to NCAA Division I.
The dominant color for all the Binghamton University communications materials is deep green (PMS 342). In the Binghamton Bearcats logo, it’s enriched with several other colors, including grey, red, light green, two shades of grey, black, and white.
Binghamton Bearcats basketball
The men’s basketball team was involved in a scandal, which damaged both its reputation and performance. It turned out the university had compromised admissions and educational standards in an attempt to get better players for their men’s basketball team. As a result of the scandal, the team lost several players and staffers. Since then, the team has never managed to accrue a winning record in overall or conference play.
As for the women’s basketball team, it has never appeared in Division I Tournament, but it competed in the Division III Tournament from 1995 to 1998 and Division II in 1999.
