The sports teams of the University of Texas at El Paso compete under the names of the Miners (men’s teams) and Lady Miners (women’s teams).
Meaning and history
The nickname “Miners,” which has become the core of the university’s brand identity, came from the original name of the school, the “State School of Mines and Metallurgy.”
This theme is implemented in the UTEP Miners logo through a figure of a miner holding his main tool in his hand. On both sides, there are stylized hills in grey and dark blue. The abbreviation “UTEP” is given below in large italicized letters, while the word “Miners,” also italicized but smaller, is positioned under it.
