The name is split between two lines. The top line is placed on a white rectangle, while the second is done in reverse colors. It is a simple yet perfect representation of the university’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
1986 – 2019
The logo still features the same classic serif style font and a clean and modern design. In this version, the university’s initials were added above the full name. Each letter is done using a different font. The first one looks elegant and sophisticated thanks to contrasting strokes and smooth, sharp serifs. The next letter is done in a basic sans-serif font with bold strokes. Finally, the “M” features a three-dimensional design. Such a variety of fonts is meant to reflect the diversity of programs, education methods, and so on that the university offers.
2019 – Today
The typography of “Universidad Autónoma de Madrid” is elegant and straightforward, ensuring clarity and professionalism. It closely resembles the logo used earlier but the addition of color gave it a very different feel. The initials are done in solid green and feature a different font. They are added to the left of the name. The latter is also done in color, blue, and aligned to the left. A blue geometric shape is also added to the initials. This updated version reflects that the university is moving forward without forgetting its rich history.
Font and Color
Originally, the logo featured a classic black-and-white color palette that creates a formal and professional appearance. Relatively recently, the university switched to a green and blue color palette. The green has always been associated with growth and renewal. The blue is associated with trust, and reliability, as well as sky and ocean. The two colors can also represent nature and sustainability efforts.
Duke Condensed Normal font and LimesCondensed font are the two classic, condensed serif fonts that resemble the font used to print the name in the logos created in 1968 and 1986. In 2019, the font was changed to a different serif font that looks like Justus Roman font and Walbaum SB Roman OsF font. It is an elegant serif font with high contrast and classic style.
