Today we decided to make our rating of the most expensive cars in the world. In fact, in addition to fabulously expensive vintage, some companies chase the title and annually bring to market new models that cost space money. One is cooler than the other, but which car can be called the most expensive. Let’s take a look together.

We have gathered for you the top fifty vintage and contemporary cars from the world’s most awarded manufacturers and tried to briefly justify exorbitant prices (although it is not always easy). Let’s start with the cheapest, which is only a little bit above in price of a 3 bedroom apartment in most of the cities in the world.

Ferrari SF90 Stradale

Ferrari SF90 Stradale is a truly iconic car of the Italian manufacturer, and there is a minimum of two reasons for it. First of all, SF90 is the first plug-in hybrid of Ferrari, produced in series order, which demonstrates the change of orientation of the manufacturer towards electrification and innovation. Secondly, the model was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Scuderia Ferrari racing team, which is just reflected in the name of the car.

McLaren P1

Price: $1.15 million

The successor to the legendary McLaren F1 produced until 2005, the P1 was the first supercar in the world to be equipped with a hybrid powertrain. Only a total of 375 units of this model were assembled. Zenvo is, probably, one of the least known luxuries are manufacturers to our readers. Don’t be surprised, the ST1 models won’t be the only ones from this Denmark high-end brand. Zenvo ST1, a supercar with a gasoline V8 engine, was presented as a concept in 2009, and only in 2012, the first buyers were able to try it. The supercar accelerates from a place to 100 km/h in three seconds, but its maximum speed is electronically limited to 375 km/h.

Aston Martin Valhalla

The first but not the last car of Aston Martin on our list is Valhalla. The Valhalla is a hybrid supercar from the British manufacturer with two electric engines, axle spacing. Interestingly, the transmission developed specifically for the hypercar has no reverse gear — electricity is used for reversing. Aston Martin Valhalla is considered to be the affordable (yes, for just a little bit more than one million) version of the iconic Valkyrie supercar.

Ferrari LaFerrari

Ferrari LaFerrari is a timeless classic. It was introduced to the public in 2013 and was considered to be the fastest supercar of the iconic Italian brand. The hypercar is powered by a hybrid powertrain, based on a 6.2-liter direct-injection, 790 horsepower V12 engine, which generates 700 Nm of torque at 6,750 pm. The design of the car is also more than simply impressive.

Aston Martin One-77

The British luxury brand’s incredibly powerful supercar surpasses even the famous Ferrari F12. The name One-77 is not accidental, because these cars were produced only 77, which adds exclusivity to the already almost perfect supercar. Produced in 2012 — 2013, Aston Martin One-77 was equipped with an atmospheric V12 engine of 7.3 liters volume and 760 hp, combined with a six-speed robotized transmission. According to the datasheet, the car needed only 3.7 seconds to accelerate to a hundred, and its top speed was 354 km/h.

Another car from the Danish luxury manufacturer. The Hyper-GT supercar from the Danish manufacturer was introduced in 2017. The TS1 GT has a power output of 1,180 hp and a maximum torque of 1,100 Nm. The car has a seven-speed gearbox with paddles and electrohydraulic actuators, which, according to the company, shift almost as fast as Formula 1 gearboxes.

Rimac C_Two

Price: $2 million

Rimac C_Two, or Rimac Concept Two, was introduced in Geneva in 2018. This electric supercar can accelerate to 100 oh/ in just 1,85 sec, which is extremely impressive. This model from the young and not very famous Croatian automaker was called the main competitor to the Tesla Roadster (1,9sec to 100 km/h by the way). Though the design is not its strongest point.

Koenigsegg One:1

 

Price: $2 million

The serial megacar from the Swedish luxury brand was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2014. The 400 km/h mark on the speedometer of the Koenigsegg One:1 is reached in about 20 seconds, and the maximum speed of the hypercar is about 450 km/h. By comparison, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 SuperSport takes 25 seconds longer to accelerate to 400 kilometers per hour. Impressive, isn’t it?

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

So now as we crossed the $2 million mark, it’s time for Lamborghini to step in. The iconic Italian manufacturer of one of the most wanted cars in the world starts its presence in our list with its Sesto Elemento, a coupe which is equipped with a 570 hp V10 5.2 petrol engine from the Gallardo model, a six-speed robotized transmission, and all-wheel-drive system. The Sesto Elemento can reach 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds.

Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta

The modified version of the famous Italian supercar, Ferrari Laferrari Aperta is a premium two-seat sports roadster. The car is equipped with an advanced hybrid power plant. It is based on a huge 6,262 cubic centimeter turbocharged V12 petrol engine. Large capacity coupled with an advanced supercharging system allowed the engineers to squeeze out 800 horsepower at 9250 rpm and about 700 Nm of torque at 6750 crankshaft rpm. The engine is paired with an electric motor with 64 horsepower. Acceleration to 100 km/s is made in 3 seconds.

McLaren Speedtail

The British Hypercar Speedtail has an engine with a displacement of 3994 cm³ developing 1050 horsepower, which allows the car to accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 403 km/h. McLaren Speedtail is a premium hypercar, the distinctive feature of which is not the excellent technical characteristics, but primarily its exterior design.

Aston Martin Vulcan

The Vulcan is a supercar from Aston Martin, designed exclusively for driving on the racetrack. It is a very limited edition model, equipped with a 7.0-liter atmospheric V12 engine with 811 hp, the torque to the rear wheels is transmitted through a six-speed sequential gearbox. Many external elements of the Aston Martin Vulcan are made of carbon. The interior of the supercar is also almost entirely made of carbon fiber and additionally reinforced with a safety cage.

This model, introduced by the Italian company in 2014, is an improved prototype of the F12 Berlinetta. The supercar is equipped with a removable roof. And if the roof is not removed, its speed will not be more than 120 kilometers per hour. Certainly, it is not enough for a sports car, but without a roof, the car turns into a super-powerful unit. A 6.3-liter V12 engine easily produces a speed equal to 740 horsepower. Two clutches and a 7-band robot accelerate the car in 3.1 seconds to 100 km/h.

Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4

One of the most modern members of our list, the supercar from Lamborghini, was presented to the general public in 2021. Based on the legendary Aventador, this limited edition car also takes over several important technical features from the Sian FKP 37. The Countach is equipped with a 6.5-liter atmospheric V12 engine that produces 780 hp. It works in conjunction with a seven-band robot, in which a 48-volt electric motor with 34 horsepower is integrated. The supercar accelerates to 100 km/s in 2.8 seconds. Only 112 cars of this model are planned to be produced.

Pagani Huayra BC

The BC is an improved version of the famous Huayra from the Italian automaker Pagani. The main pride of the car is the ultra-light and super-efficient suspension, for the manufacture of which aviation aluminum was used (which significantly reduced the weight). The Huayra BC is equipped with a 6.0-liter V12 engine developed by Mercedes-AMG specialists. The engine works in conjunction with an upgraded seven-band Xtrac robot. The Pagani Huayra BC comes also in a Roadster version, and its price is $3,5 million.

Ferrari LaFerrari FXX K is a track version of the famous supercar of the Italian automaker, where K in the name means on-board kinetic energy recovery system – KERS. The electric motor of the FXX K develops 190 horsepower (163 on the standard version), and the 6.3-liter V12 is boosted from 800 to 860 horses. The peak torque is 900 Nm.

Mercedes AMG One

The Mercedes-AMG One is a hypercar created by the German automaker based on Formula 1 racing cars. The basis of the power unit is a 1.6-liter V6 turbocharged gasoline engine from an F1 bolide but adapted for road conditions. Mercedes plans to build a total of 275 AMG One models at prices starting at $2.7 million each. On average it ends up at around $3 million for a unit.

Named after the famous auto racer Louis-Alexander Chiron, this supercar from Bugatti was introduced in 2016, as a successor of Bugatti Veyron, which for many years was the most famous supercar in the world, not to say less. The Koenigsegg Jesko coupe replaces the legendary Agera RS and Regera models in the Swedish brand’s range. Also, the Jesko was originally planned as Koenigsegg’s most mass-produced car, with the company intending to produce 125 units, equipped with a 5.0-liter V8 engine, and two turbochargers. Jesko has a nine-speed unit of its design, with six clutches and no synchronizers at all. The transmission is called Light Speed Transmission: according to the company, it changes gears “at the speed of light”.

1964 Ferrari 250 LM

The only model in our list from the historical American automaker Duesenberg was sold from the auction in 2018 for 22 million USD. There were only two SSJ cars produced, and this particular one was owned by the legendary actor Gary Cooper. This car with a Herb Newport body was produced in 1935. The SSJ was one of the fastest cars that could be driven on public roads in those times. The inline eight-cylinder engine, equipped with a compressor, developed about 400 horsepower, which allowed the speedster to accelerate over 220 kilometers per hour.

1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spider

Price: $27.5 million

One of the first Spiders, this particular Ferrari 275 GTB/4 was sold for a record 27 and a half million USD. The “N.A.R.T.” In its name stands for “North American Racing Team” of Luigi Chinetti. The car was super powerful and fast for its time — it was equipped with a V12 engine with a power of 300 hp.

1956 Ferrari 290 MM

Not winning any races, but driven by the legendary racer Juan Manuel Fangio (one of the loudest names in the history of Formula 1), this Ferrari 290MM, manufactured in the middle of the 1950s, was sold from the auction for 28 million dollars. The Scarlett-red reassert with bold white “600” on both sides, still looks progressive and chic.

The new Rolls-Royce convertible concept was unveiled in 2021. The Boat Tail, which looks like its name and resembles a luxury yacht, is built on the same aluminum architecture as the production Cullinan, Phantom, and Ghost, a space frame that took eight months to refine. A total of 1,813 new parts were created especially for this model.

1954 Mercedes Benz W196R

1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta

Ferrari with the index 250 was produced from 1954 until the end of the 60s in numerous modifications, and most of them were assembled in just one or very limited quantities. All 250s were two-door rear-wheel-drive Berlinetta coupes with hardtop or convertible roofs and were GT class cars – Grand Tourismo, but in essence, they were real supercars. Ferrari 250 GTO is a separate class of cars, which takes the top part of all possible ratings.

After going through the whole article, it’s can’t be a surprise to see that the most expensive car in the world was manufactured by the iconic Italian automaker, as the Ferrari cars took most of today’s rating. So what makes the 250 GTO, introduced in 1963, so special?

The Ferrari 250 GTO is not only the most expensive car ever sold at auction but also the most expensive unrestored car ever put up for auction. Such an exorbitant cost of the car is due, first of all, to its small number, since only 36 of them were made, as well as the historical value – each 250 GTO has won a race. The sports coupe is equipped with a three-liter V12 Colombo engine that develops 300 horsepower. In the sixties, every buyer of the model was personally approved by Enzo Ferrari.
