Products manufactured by Johnson & Johnson’s pharmaceutical division, Kenvue, include, many popular brands, such as, for example, Neutrogena creams, Band-Aid patches, Listerine mouthwash, the paracetamol analog Tylenol, and the Johnson’s Baby product line.
Recently, more and more pharmaceutical companies have been selling or spinning off their consumer products or non-modern medicines divisions. Thus, in September 2022, Johnson & Johnson Corporation announced that the new company into which it would spin off its consumer healthcare products division would be called Kenvue. Thus, as early as November 2023, a new company was formed. As for the name, Kenvue has Scottish roots. In Scotland, “ken” means knowledge, and “vue”, means sight, or vision.
Kenvue is part of the 135-year-old company’s plan to modernize and revitalize its corporate image. Thibault Mongon, who has been with Johnson & Johnson for more than 20 years – since 2000, was appointed head of Kenvue. The company originally planned to sell its products in more than 100 countries around the world.
As early as May 2023, the company went public. Kenvue placed 172.8 million shares for $22 per paper. Initially, it planned to sell 151 million shares on the open market at a price ranging from $20 to $23. And in late August of the same year, Johnson & Johnson completed the exchange of its shares for the securities of the spun-off Kenvue Inc., retaining a 9.5% stake.
What is Kenvue?
Kenvue is the name of Johnson & Johnson’s pharmaceuticals division, formed by the company’s demerger in 2023. Kenvue produces popular products and medicines such as Band-Aid patches and the antipyretic Tylenol.
In terms of visual identity, Kenvue is quite a laconic and progressive company. Its bold and confident logo was designed in the middle of 2023 by the legendary Wolff Olins design bureau.
Originally, Kenvue was just a Health Department of the Johnson & Johnson company, hence its logo was fully based on the corporate identity. The iconic red logotype in a recognizable cursive font was placed against a transparent background and underlined by a gray uppercase “Consumer Health” lettering in a simple geometric sans-serif typeface.
The use of the company’s new logo and corporate identity became effective upon completion of the J&J separation, in November 2023. The new badge is executed in a calm sea-green color palette and composed of a minimalistic emblem and a bold sans-serif wordmark in a mixed case. The emblem of the company is a stylized letter “K” with its right part replaced by a heart symbol.
The distinctive mixed case lettering from the official Kenvue logo is set in a custom sans-serif typeface, which is based on one of the following commercial fonts: Rothek, Kamerik 105 Text, or All Round Gothic, with significant modifications of the contours.
As for the color palette of the Kenvue visual identity, it is based on a vivid yet calming shade of green, which symbolizes life, well-being, health, and success. This shade also shows the company as a reliable and trustworthy one.
