On June 10, 2024, the public beta of iOS 18 was revealed, which Apple unveiled at its Worldwide Developers Conference. The iOS 18 operating system is said to be one of the biggest updates in the history of the iPhone. And in many respects, it is the “merit” of Artificial Intelligence.
Meaning and history
Apple unveiled its iOS 18 at its annual WWDC conference on June 10, 2024. Immediately after the presentation, beta testing of the new operating system for iPhones – iOS 18 – began. For users, iOS 18 will be available from September 2024 along with iPhone 16 and other new products after the official release.
iOS 18 has a completely revamped Siri voice assistant, redesigned the home screen and dashboard, and added new photo and messaging features.
As we have already mentioned, the big thing in the new iOS 18 is artificial intelligence. At WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled its own version of it – Apple Intelligence. This event marked a new stage in the development of AI technologies integrated into the Apple ecosystem, providing deeper and more intuitive support for users.
Generative artificial intelligence will also appear in the Siri voice assistant. The voice assistant will be pumped up with the help of currently advanced language models and advanced artificial intelligence to bring it to a new level.
In addition, with the new version, it will be possible to use a dark theme for icons of any application on the desktop. Previously, the dark theme for icons was available only for those applications where developers created images for themes themselves. The operating system’s AI now separates the image from the background and darkens the background itself.
Also, iPhone owners with Face ID can now change the icons on the lock screen. There is also a new mode for locking content inside apps. To access apps, you’ll need to authenticate via Touch ID or Face ID.
Also with iOS 18, you’ll be able to schedule your messages in case you don’t want to send something right away, and satellite-compatible iPhones (iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 series) can send iMessages and SMS via satellite while away from a cellular reception area.
And as a gift for all gamers, the iPhone will have a new game mode. It turns on the maximum performance on the iPhone and the most important thing is that the latency of headphones and Bluetooth controllers is reduced.
What is iOS 18?
iOS 18 is the new iPhone firmware that was introduced in June 2024. All devices running iOS 17 will be able to upgrade to iOS 18. This means that the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will be able to upgrade to iOS 18, as will the iPhone XR.
In terms of visual identity, iOS 18 is both bright and elegant. The developers have combined all the last branding design trends in one small icon, using unusual colors, layers, and quite a minimalistic approach to shapes and patterns.
2024 – Today
The primary version of the iOS 18 logo is executed in a sleek color palette, composed of several sea-blue shades and peach-pink tones. The distinctive white “18” digit is placed on a sea-blue background and has its right part overlapped by semi-transparent layers in pinkish shades. The layers are drawn as smooth waves, which are the lines associated with the AI and “smart” connections. The same approach can be seen in the Siri icon.
Font and Color
The icon of the iOS 18 operating system has no additional lettering in its primary version, however, sometimes the company uses it in a chain with the Apple wordmark, executed in a clean corporate sans-serif typeface with medium-weight bars of the full-shaped characters.
As for the color palette of the iOS 18 logo, it is based on the combination of greenish sea-blue and its gradients, and the gradients of peach pink, which, by the way, was named the color of the year by the Pantone Institute. This color scheme makes the iOS 18 icon stand out not only in the list of its competitors but also in the list of all Apple emblems.
