Hells Angels is one of the world’s largest motorcycle clubs, with chapters all over the world. Along with Outlaws MC, Pagans MC, and Banditos MC, it is part of the so-called “big four” Outlaw clubs and is the most famous among them. Law enforcement agencies in some countries call the club a “motorcycle gang” and accuse it of drug trafficking, racketeering, trafficking in stolen goods, violence, murder, etc. Club members claim that they are peaceful motorcycle enthusiasts who have united for joint moto bloggers, meetings, and public events. Yet, it is worth remembering that the fundamental law of the club is to stand up for your own under any circumstances, even if it can lead to bloody clashes, and who is right and who is guilty will be sorted out later. Women are never allowed to become official members of the organization and, of course, you cannot be a member of the Hells Angels and any other club at the same time.
Meaning and History
Until the 50s, the Hells Angels were simple motorcycle enthusiasts. They had neither a structure nor an official name. The Hell’s Angels motorcycle club was founded in 1948 by war veteran Otto Friedli and united several biker gangs. Club members claim that they were named after the Flying Tigers, a US Air Force fighter squadron of which the Hells Angels were a unit. The Hells Angels gained significant notoriety during the 1960s, partly due to their involvement in counterculture events. Since then, new charters appeared in the country and later across the world. The club is known for its strict code of conduct, including loyalty, respect, and silence regarding club affairs.
What is Hells Angels?
The rapid increase in two-wheeled transport after World War II has contributed to the development of motorcycle clubs. The Hells Angels are a motorcycle club founded in the United States after World War II. Currently, the Hells Angels are one of the largest, if not the largest, in terms of membership and chapters worldwide, and the most well-known of all outlaw motorcycle clubs.
1948 – Today
The official logo of the Hells Angels club is a skull with wings. The logo was copied and creatively transformed from the emblem of the US Air Force units by Frank Sadlick, president of the San Francisco chapter of the club. The image of the skull and the details of the logo have been modified several times since then. The emblem is done in yellow, red, and black. The club’s founders were smart enough to patent the now classic symbols depicted on the rockers. The club’s name is printed using a Western-style font, which gives it a retro and decorative appearance. The yellow, arched inscription also looks eye-catching.
Font and Color
The club used a retro font with Western motifs for its logo. It resembles the Hessian Regular font by MADType. The “MC” acronym, on the other hand, is done using a Classic Grotesque Pro Bold font by Monotype.
A bold color palette featuring red, yellow, and black has been used to design the emblem. Red and black are often associated with strength and aggression. Red also represents the spirit of freedom and rebellion celebrated in motorcycle culture. Meanwhile, the yellow represents the thrill of riding and the joy of the open road.
