Bluetooth Logo PNG
Bluetooth is a technology intended for transferring digital data over short distances. It began to develop rapidly after 1998, when Ericsson, Intel, Toshiba, IBM, and Nokia joined efforts to promote the technology.
Bluetooth is the name of a technology which allows mobile phones and computer to communicate with each other not using any wire connections. The technology was created in 1989 by one of the Intel specialists, Jim Kardach, and today is used by millions of people across the globe, being a true breakthrough in communication techs.
Meaning and history
The developer of the technology, Jim Kardach, came up with the name in 1994, and this is when the brand’s logo was introduced. The name was borrowed from a Danish king, Harald Bluetooth, who was known for uniting tribes into one nation. This is what the purpose of Bluetooth technology initially was — to unite devices without any wires.
The Bluetooth logo, introduced in 1994, has never been redesigned, just a few variations of its color palette appeared throughout the years. Its emblem became iconic and today is instantly recognizable across the globe, but not many know that there is a hidden meaning in the geometric figures and lines, placed on a blue oval badge.
The emblem of the technology is strongly connected to the etymology of its name, and its Danish roots. The white symbols on the blue background is a rune, which can be read as “HB”, initials of Harald Bluetooth.
What is Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is an advanced wireless data transmission technology that allows you to connect virtually any device with each other. Anything with a built-in Bluetooth microchip can be connected. The Bluetooth standard was originally developed by Swedish scientists at Ericsson in 1994.
Symbol
The Bluetooth logo is one of the brightest examples of the effectiveness of minimalist design. The emblem combines the Nordic runes that closely resemble the today’s Latin ‘H’ (Haglazl) and ‘B’ (Berkanan). The unification of these elements in the symbol hints at the connection between two devices. The white symbol is placed on a blue background, and the name is written in black.
Font and color
The iconic Bluetooth logo can usually be seen whether in monochrome or a blue and white color palette, which both are a perfect choice for the brand, strongly related to technologies. The black-and-white color scheme stands for professionalism and seriousness, while the blue and white combo represents the reliability and expertise of the brand, pointing at its trustworthiness and attention to detail.
The logotype is not often used for the Bluetooth visual identity, though when it is — the brand uses a bold yet very simple sans-serif typeface, which is very close to Neue Plak Condensed Bold font with its narrowed contours of the letters and thick lines.
