As for the visual identity, both logos of the American Eagles, created for the athletic program from 1985 until today, are very patriotic and strong. Executed in the traditional blue, red, and white tricolor, they boast completely different designs, but one mood. White the first badge was based on the graphical element, and the second one went to the lettering.
1985 — 2005
The logo of the American Eagles athletic program, designed in 1985, featured a square banner, vertically divided into solid blue and red halves, with the drawing of an eagle’s head placed over it. The head of the bird was set in white, with its black, turned to the left, drawn in yellow, and the whole image outlined in black. The square badge was underlined by a two-leveled inscription in blue and red, placed on a white background. The upper level featured an uppercase blue “American University” in an elegant serif typeface, while the bottom level was red, with the “Eagles” in a larger size, same font, but more space between the letters.
2006 — Today
The redesign of 2006 introduced a completely different logo for the athletic program from the American University. It is an “AU” abbreviation set vertically, with the “U” slightly shifted to the right. Both letters are set in solid blue and outlined in white and red, with the red part bolder. The letters are set in a custom typeface with delicate sharp serifs. The abbreviation is horizontally crossed by an arched banner, executed in the same color palette. The banner has a white uppercase “American” written over it in the same typeface as the “AU”, but with thinner lines and no outline.
