Rode is an Australian brand of microphones and audio software designer and manufacturer. The company was founded in 1967 by Henry and Astrid Freedman.
Meaning and history
Rode is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of microphones and related accessories and its logo stands out on the list of competitors, being minimalist yet very modern and stylish.
The brand uses Scandinavian ø symbol in its name. Peter Freedman, the founders’ son, added ø to celebrate his Scandinavian heritage and to add European flavor to the brand. In Danish “røde” is the plural for “red”.
1967 – 2022
The Rode logo is a black wordmark in all-caps, with a “Microphones” tagline and a gold circle below it. The circle symbolizes the microphone itself.
The simple color scheme and bold typeface make the Rode logo an example of timeless style and elegance.
2022 – now
In 2022, the company modernized the logo. AN already simple and minimalistic visual identity was made even simpler as the “Microphones” tagline and the golden circle were removed. The company preserved the same font and black color for its name. This further strengthen the brand identity and ensured that the logo stays recognizable. The bold lettering and black color make the brand look stable and reflect the quality of its products.
