The franchise’s first official game took place in the spring of 1999. Previously, the team played under the name of the Durham Bulls but changed its brand identity after relocation. Today Myrtle Beach Pelicans play in the Carolina League as Single-A affiliates of Chicago Cubs. In the Pelicans’ professional achievements portfolio, there are four League titles and nine Division ones.

Meaning and history

Established in 1999, Myrtle Beach Pelicans have started their path in the Carolina League with a huge win — in their first season the franchise has won the League Championship. And the Pelicans managed to repeat their success the next year, in 2000. However, after two League titles in a row, there was quite a long break. The next series of two wins started in 2015, with the latest League title won by the club in 2016.

The League history of Myrtle Beach Pelicans began with the affiliation with Atlanta Braves, which lasted until 2010 when the club gained a new Major League partner, Texas Rangers. The current Pelicans’ affiliate club, Chicago Cubs, stepped in in 2015. It is the Cubs who helped Myrtle Beach Pelican upgrade their league level from Class-A Advance to Single-A.

Since 1999, the logo of the Carolina League team Myrtle Beach Pelicans has been based on a stylized depiction of a pelican. It wasn’t the same pelican, though.

1999 — 2006

The 1999 Myrtle Beach Pelicans logo featured an anthropomorphized pelican over large teal letters “MB.” The creature was holding a bat in its “hands.”

2007 — Today

Unlike its predecessor, the pelican on the 2007 logo looks more like a bird than a baseball player. He’s standing on a baseball bat in the same way as any bird stands on a twig.

Colors

The updated color scheme combines two shades of blue with yellow and white.
