The Mahoning Valley Scrappers, quite a young baseball team, played their first official game in 1999, and until 2020 they were a part of the New York–Penn League, and the Short-Season A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. However, for the 2021 season, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers moved to the MLB Draft League, and today have no affiliations.
The team, based in Niles, Ohio, was established in 1999, and joined the New York-Penn League in the same year, becoming a farm club of the Cleveland Indians. This was the only MLB affiliation of the Scrappers throughout its whole history, which is quite a rare thing today. The first (and only) League title was won by the Scrappers in 2004, and this was followed by three Division titles, in 2009, 2017, and 2018.
In 2020 the summer collegiate baseball club was invited to join the MLB Draft League, hence the Mahoning Valley Scrappers started playing as an unaffiliated team.
In terms of visual identity, the Scrappers are as stable as in their professional careers. Both primary logos of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers Club have so far featured a bulldog wearing a helmet as the main element.
While the focal point of the current logo is once again a bulldog wearing a helmet, this time it’s depicted in a completely different way. The dog is holding a bat in his teeth, and there’s the team name above.
The palette comprises navy blue, gold, and silver.
