The franchise, which now plays in the High-A South Atlantic League, traces its roots as far back as 1897, which makes it one of the oldest clubs in American baseball. Moreover, the Tourists name of the team, which stayed unchanged since 1915, is the oldest one. Another interesting fact about the club is the large amount of its MLB affiliates — more than ten. After a long break of more than 20 years, the club has returned to its old affiliate, Houston Astros, a club that is way younger than the Tourists. Previously Asheville Tourists played as the Class A affiliate of Colorado Rockies.

Meaning and history

The Minor League Baseball team the Asheville Tourists has had its logo updated three times since 1980.

1980 — 2004

The bear featured on the Asheville Tourists logo introduced in 1980 was a combination of a baseball player and a tourist. He was holding a baseball bat in one paw and a suitcase in the other, and there was also a camera.

2005 — 2010

The following logo, which was adopted in 2005, focused on a large white “A,” which was placed in front of a mountain range.

2011 — Today

While the mountain theme is also present on the current logo, it has a totally different look here. Now, it’s part of a serene night scene, with bright stars shining over the peaks. A baseball is given in the form of a comet. The word “Tourists” is scripted in white over the mountain, while the lettering “Asheville” is given in jade.
