The first classes were held in 1892 with a small number of students, and the institution was officially renamed Washington State College in 1905. In 1959, Washington State College was designated as Washington State University, reflecting its growth and the expansion of its academic programs. Today, it is a prominent institution in higher education, known for its commitment to research, public service, and the development of future leaders.
