The Chiefs (Kansas City Chiefs) are a renowned professional football team. It is based in Kansas City, Missouri, and it is a member of AFC West division of the NFL.
Kansas City Chiefs, a professional American soccer club from Missouri, was founded in 1959. The club is a member of the Western Division, American Football Conference of the National Football League. Since 2016, when the Rams moved to LA, California, the Chiefs remain the only NFL club in the state of Missouri. The club plays its home games at Arrowhead Stadium Arena.
The Kansas City Chiefs club was established by the legendary for the American football person, Lamar Hunt, as Dallas Texans. Hunt decided to restore the name of the former Dallas team, the Texans, which spent only one season in the NFL in 1952. But the “Texas” era didn’t last long, as already in 1962 it became clear, that Dallas could not support two NFL Teams, so Hunt started looking for a new place for his club.
The options Lamar Hunt had in mind were Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, and New Orleans, as he wanted to find a place where it was easier to move from Texas. However, he didn’t succeed in negotiations with local stadiums, and when in 1963 Hunt got an offer from the Kansas City mayor, he didn’t think long.
Shortly after the move, the Texans renamed the Kansas City Chiefs. This name was chosen, like many other names in the NFL, through a contest, and is a tribute to Harold Bertle, the former mayor of the city, who was also known as “The Chief”, as found a Native American community within the Boy Scout Organization of America known as “The Tribe of Mic-O-Say”.
Lamar Hunt, the owner of the Chiefs, is the man, who wasdriving for Se behind the formation of AFL, and in 1966, he started to work on the merger of AFL and NFL, achieving another success, as the leagues agreed to hold the World Championship game at the end of the regular season.
And the first merger game took place in 1967, with the Chiefs facing Green Bay Packers, the NFL champions at the time. This game is considered to be the predecessor of the Super Bowl. By the way, Lamar Hunt was also the one, offering the “Super Bowl” Name. The idea came to him when he was watching his daughter playing with the rubber ball branded“Super Ball”.
The team started off in 1960, and that was when the first Chiefs logo was introduced. It featured a running gunslinger with a gun and a pigskin in its hands, and a map image of Texas as a background. Actually, it was the logo of Dallas Texans – that was the team’s name at the moment.
Who owns the Kansas City Chiefs?
Kansas City Chiefs football club is owned by a family of a well-known businessman from the USA, Lamar Hunt. Hunt was born in 1932 and passed away in 2006, his family inherited the sports club.
In 1963, this logo was replaced with one featuring a Native American running in the same manner as the gunslinger with a tomahawk and a pigskin against the background of Oklahoma, Nebraska, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri. The logo was in use until 1971. These logos were to depict the team’s unswerving desire to reach new horizons backed by inexhaustible vigor, thirst for victory, agility, strength, and speed.
Where are Kansas City Chiefs located?
Kansas City Chiefs football club is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri state, and the Arena of the club is located in the same city. The home stadium of Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium.
The logo introduced before the team’s first season featured a cowboy running with a gun in his hand. In the background, a red map could be seen. The lettering “Texans” written across the cowboy’s chest reminded of the fact that the team’s original name was the Dallas Texans.
When the team adopted its current name, the design was updated. Now the Kansas City Chiefs logo featured a Native American running with a tomahawk in his hand. There was a white map in the background.
The design remained virtually unchanged. There were also a couple of very subtle alterations. All shapes and colors remained in their places, but the tomahawk was drawn in a slightly larger size, which made the whole composition a bit more balanced. Although, this version of the Kansas City Chiefs logo only stayed in use for less than two years.
The redesign of 1972 introduced the Kansas City Chiefs logo, which we all know today. The new concept was much more laconic than the previous one. The Indian theme almost disappeared from the emblem. Only the tip of the arrow, in which the letters “K” and “C” were placed, reminded of it. And the uneven edges of the arrowhead resemble those contours of the map, drawn on the background of the first team’s logos.
The current Chiefs logo was designed by Lamar Hunt. He sketched it on a napkin when he was flying to Kansas City.
Today, the Chiefs logo are the interlocking cherry-red “KC” inside a white arrowhead-like figure. The arrowhead’s contour is black and chipped.
The Chiefs logo comprises three colors: white, black, and purple. They create a mix, which expresses excellence, charm, strength, and determination.
The wordmark is written in signature cherry-red letters – the club’s recognizable and iconic typerface.
The helmet design of the Kansas City Chief club hasn’t changed for quite a long time, as there is nothing to improve, to be honest. The bright red helmets of the club’s players are decorated with a white emblem in a shape of an arrowhead, with a thick uneven outline in black, and a massive red “KC” monogram in an extended serif font, with the “K”, placed above the “C” and overlapping it, and both characters outlined in black. The elements of the helmet look pretty simple, but the cleanliness of the lines and the powerful color palette make them stand out on the list of NFL teams.
The professional football club from Kansas City has one of the brightest uniform color palettes of the NFL. It is based on a combination of red, white, and golden-yellow, with some black contours and small accents.
There are four options for the uniform the team uses: for home games the Chiefs wear red jerseys with white pants, decorated with yellow, white, and red stripes; the road uniform is composed of a white jersey and red pants, with some colorful accents. There is also an all-white uniform, with the majority of decorative elements in red, and the all-red one.
Since 1972 the Chiefs have been playing on the Arrowhead Stadium, the arena, built in Kansas City in the same year, and being renovatedfour times, with the latest expansion in 2010. After the renovation, the Arrowhead Stadium’s capacity grew up to 76,416 seats.
Before 1972 the Chiefs used to play at the Municipal Stadium for eight years. And the very first ground of the club was the Cotton Bowl stadium in Dallas, Texas.
Throughout the history of the Kansas City Chiefs football club, there were several memorable dates for the team, which were worth celebrating with anniversary emblems, about which we are going to speak below.
For the silver anniversary of the American Football League, the predecessor of the NFL, in 1984 a special badge was designed for each of the members, including Kansas City Chiefs. It was a white roundel with a gray frame and blue lettering around its perimeter. The central part of the badge was decorated with the image of the team’s helmet in red.
For the 35th anniversary of the professional football club, the emblem was designed in 1994. Set in a dramatic black, yellow, and red color palette, the medallion was enclosed into a wide white frame with a green leafy wreath. The enlarged “35” was taking up almost all of the badge’s space. The top of the logo was decorated by the AFL official emblem.
To celebrate the 40th season of the team, another anniversary badge was introduced in 1999. A contrasting light-gold and black badge with decorative five-pointed stars in the corners and the blue and red AFL emblem on top had a bold enlarged “40” written in the center in solid red digits with a white outline. The emblem of the franchise was drawn at the very bottom of the composition.
The 50th season of the Kansas City Chiefs franchise was marked by a new emblem in 2009. A classy white crest in a double red and gold outline had the enlarged golden “50” in the center, enclosed between the three horizontal golden lines with the contours of the state and two stars on top, and a datemark with the club’s official logo at the bottom.
The emblem, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the football club, looked very elegant in its smooth yet eye-catching color palette, composed of cream and red. The circular badge was outlined in a red frame with the dates written on its top part, the emblem of the football club, engraved on the bottom part of the frame, and an enlarged “60” with the blue “Seasons” tagline.
