The visual metaphor behind the logo of the West Michigan Whitecaps is pretty transparent. You can see a whitecap – a wave with bubbles and streaks on its breaking crest.
The West Michigan Whitecaps, Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, were established in 1994. The team has been playing in the Midwest League ever since.
Adopted in 2014, the West Michigan Whitecaps logo is a stylized depiction of a wave with a whitecap of bubbles. The wave is anthropomorphized – at least, it has eyes.
The additional logo introduced in 2013 shows a clear connection with the parent team, the Detroit Tigers. Now, the whitecap has several tiger’s features, including the tail, teeth, ears, and eyes.
