Valencia Club de Fútbol was established in 1919 in the city of Valencia located on the east coast of Spain. Today, it’s the country’s third most supported football club.

Meaning and history

The history of the club dates back to the first quarter of the twentieth century. So, in 1919, two friends, Milego and Medina, decided to create a club with the same name. According to the results of the lot, Milego became the first president and on March 18, 1919, the club was officially registered by the authorities.

Soccer club Valencia has existed for more than 80 years. All these years, the team’s loyal fans, succeeding each other, have created a super club, which is what Valencia is now. The history of this team has countless ups and downs, but nevertheless, every fan can be proud of it.

A lot of people have contributed to Valencia’s development. They had a hand in transforming it from a little-known team into a respected and well-known club. Many names, memorable dates, and beautiful goals have been absorbed by Valencia so that one day Valencians and all those who live outside of Spain will feel real pride in it. From the former Football Club Valencia, the team became Valencia C.F… S.A.D. From the Algiros stadium, it moved to the luxurious Mestalla.

What is Valencia?
Valencia is one of the strongest and most famous football clubs in Spain, which was established in 1919. Today the club plays in La Liga, taking its place in the top 10 of the championship’s line-up. FC Valencia is owned by Peter Lim and has Jose Bordalas as its head coach.

1919 – 1921

The initial badge of Valencia Football Club featured a circular shape, with the light brown ball with thin black stitches as a background, a striped yellow and red rhombus one the center, an ornate crown above it, and a delicate black “CV” monogram, with the letters placed on the sides from the rhombus.

1921 – 1941

Only two years later, in 1921, the team adopted a new logo, which looked very much like the current one. There was a shield with a football over red and yellow stripes. On the top of the shield, there was a blue line with the white text “Valencia CF.” Above it, you could see a bat with its wings spread. The shield and the wings seamlessly merged in an upside-down drop shape.

1941 – 1992

The redesign of 1941 introduced a new geometry of the badge. The circular shape was gone and replaced by a smooth triangular crest with the peak rounded and sides arched. The crest featured a vertical yellow and red striped pattern, had a gradient beige football on it, a light blue banner with white lettering along its upper border, and the main element of the logo — a black bat, replacing the crown.

1992 – 2001

The Valencia crest was refined in 1992. The composition and color palette remained untouched, but the lines and contours were cleaned and strengthened. The shades got muted, which made the whole logo look more professional and strong. The typeface remained untouched, as well as the bat.

2001 – 2009

All elements of the logo were modified and emboldened in 2001. The bat gained a more modern shape and gradient shades, while the crest itself returned to the original brightness. As for the wordmark, it was also changed. The new typeface of the uppercase inscription boasted thin clean lines and lots of space between them. The football in the center of the crest was also redrawn in a more delicate and sophisticated manner with thin brown lines.

2009 – Today

The logo was redesigned again in 2009. Although all elements remained in their place and the color palette was still based on the same shades, the whole logo started looking smoother and chicer, reflecting the progress and growth of the club and its professional approach to the game and visual identity.

Font and color

The “Valencia F.C.” wordmark from the upper part of the club’s crest, is executed in the uppercase of a bold traditional sans-serif typeface, which looks pretty similar to Europa Grotesk SB Med, Swiss 721 Hebrew Std Hebrew Bold, or Newhouse DT Bold.

As for the color palette, the main shades of the logo are yellow and red, the colors of the Spanish national flag, the colors of passion and energy. The ball is executed in a brown scheme, while the bat is dark blue tow black, and the banner with the lettering is in tender blue and white, a combination of freedom and speed.
