Somersby is an apple cider made from natural apple juice by natural fermentation without the use of flavors and coloring. Different varieties of fruits are used in the production of classic apple cider, which gives the drink a multifaceted taste. It is characterized by a pleasant apple taste and aroma, and moderate sweetness. The drink is very refreshing. The company offers not only classic apple cider but also drinks with more interesting flavors, such as pear, watermelon, strawberry, blueberry, citrus, cinnamon, and blueberry. If we talk about other varieties of Somersby, then they also contain apples, only with the addition of other types of juices. The alcohol content is 4.7% for all varieties of the drink.
Despite the fact that the recipe for the apple cider drink is over 300 years old, it first appeared on the shelves of European stores in 2008. Somersby quickly won the attention of consumers. The drink is a development of the Danish brand Carlsberg. At the moment, Somersby cider is sold in more than 50 countries around the world. It is the fastest-growing cider brand in the world, occupying the first line in the top ten world leaders. Alcohol companies in some countries have bought the rights to produce Somersby ciders.
What is Somersby?
Somersby is a brand of the Danish beer company Carlsberg Group. Cider drinks are popular in Norway, Denmark, England, Belgium and Finland. In addition to classic apple cider, the brand’s line also includes drinks with other flavors – pear, blackberry, mango-lime, blueberry, watermelon, cinnamon, cranberry, cinnamon, and basil.
The logo depicts a green apple tree on a hill with a ladder set against it. The image is quite symbolic as the brand sells apple cider drinks. The green color instantly makes one think about the natural ingredients in the beverage. The yellow sunrise in the background also evokes positive feelings and reflects the energizing and refreshing qualities of the Somersby cider. At the bottom of the image, the logo has the brand name printed in all caps, followed by “Apple Cider” on the second line using a smaller font. The inscription is also done in a pleasant shade of green with smooth, slightly rounded strokes.
Designed by Elmwood, the updated logo is a modernized version of the original logo. The tiny leaves that made up the tree were replaced by light gray swirls. The modification was mainly done to remove the rather limiting apple tree image as the company had already added multiple other flavors. It is also instantly noticeable that there is no longer bright sunshine in the background. The font has been slightly adjusted to create a small arch for the cap line. The overall look of the logo is clean and appealing, targeting a youthful and dynamic audience.
The font in the original logo looks somewhat similar to the Entrée Semi Bold by Luke Thompson or Ozonos Bold. Later, the company slightly modified its custom font by arching the middle letters to create a curvy cap line.
The company uses a green and yellow color palette with a bit of brown. All the colors create an image of a company dedicated to natural ingredients. Green is commonly associated with nature, health, and freshness. It is the company’s way of saying that Somersby is a healthier alternative to other alcoholic beverages. Green, which later became the only color, can also represent growth and innovation, suggesting that the brand is forward-thinking.
