In terms of visual identity, the brand, named after Ferdinand Magellan, the Portuguese explorer who was the first to circumnavigate the Earth, has a very calm and elegant logo.
It is a very laconic and obvious logo for the leading manufacturer of portable GPS navigation devices. The logo reflects the brand’s stability and constant development, timeless and elegant.
The logo is composed of an uppercase inscription in black, executed in a narrowed modern sans-serif typeface with the letters tall, yet stable. The black lettering is accompanied by a graphical element at the bottom, which is a bold blue orbit, stretched horizontally and decorated by a solid blue circle, set on it under the letter “A” of the wordmark.
The Magellan uppercase logotype, set in tall stable letters in a clean geometric sans-serif typeface, is executed in a font, which is pretty close to Generica Condensed Pro Medium, with small playful details on the tail of the letter “G”. The inscription looks very elegant, and the height of its letters represent the willingness of the GPS Technology provider to grow higher and to reach new levels, in both research and production.
The Magellan color palette is based on black for the all-caps classic serif wordmark and dark blue for the orbit framing. Dark blue symbolizes intelligence, trust, and reliability, while black is a color of power and strength according to 1000logos. Blue is also a color most often associated with innovations and technologies, while black balances it, grounding and showing stability and expertise.
