Maaji is a Colombian brand specializing in swimwear, activewear, and resort wear. The designers describe their products in the following way: “whimsical world full of eclecticism and attitude.”
The Colombian leader in beachwear, Maaji, is present in 51 countries, has 10 stand-alone stores across America, and sells its swimsuits and beachwear through numerous partners (such as Galerias Lafayette, El Corte Ingles, Amazon, Zappos, Bloomingdales, etc.)
This Colombian brand was created by sisters Manuela and Amalia Sierra. Their first collection, released in 2002, instantly captivated all fashionistas in Latin America. And then the brand received worldwide recognition. The main thing about the Maaji swimsuits is that all of them are reversible, which allows you to get two swimsuits for the price of one.
What is Maaji?
Maaji is a Colombian brand of stylish swimwear and beachwear, which was founded by two sisters, Manuela and Amalia Sierra in 2002. Today the products of the brand are sold in more than 50 countries worldwide. Maaji was acquainted with the LVMH Group.
The original Maaji logo, designed in 2002, has stayed with the brand for almost twenty years. It was a bold title case lettering in a smooth and elegant cursive typeface, written in black against a white background. The full-sized letters with rounded contours looked very feminine and distinctive, perfectly reflecting the essence of the brand.
Come to think of it, the Maaji logo looks slightly more elaborate than most other fashion logos.
To begin with, it has color. The light aqua shade is inspired by the color of the ocean, which is perfect for a swimwear brand. Also, the letters are given in a handwritten script, which makes it more difficult to reproduce than a sans serif type, for instance.
In addition to a scripted wordmark, there is also a symbol. It features a stylized “M” with two loops on its upper ends. The letter is placed inside a circle with a gap on the top.
The smooth cursive lettering from the primary Maaji logo is set in a custom typeface with rounded lines. The closest fonts to the one, used for the Maaji visual identity are, probably, Fairwater Script Bold and Bordonaro Script Rounded, but with most contours modified.
As for the color palette of the Maaji visual identity, like many other fashion labels, the brand uses black lines for the logotype, placed against a white background. This combination of colors makes the logo look expensive and elegant, and allows placing it on various backgrounds.
