Meaning and history

Idaho State Bengals is the name, used by 15 athletic teams, representing Idaho State University, a public non-profit educational institution located in Pocatello, USA. ISU is a member of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU), and Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU).

The university offers more than 270 academic programs through the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering, Kasiska College of Health Professions, College of Pharmacy, College of Technology (Academic), and College of Technology (P.T.E.). The institution is located in a scenic mountain valley, 264 kilometers north of Salt Lake City, Utah.

One of the additional programs of study at ISU is its athletic program, which is called Idaho State Bengals. The Bengals compete in the first division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in several disciplines including Tennis, Volleyball, and Football.

1992

The old Idaho State Bengals logo, which was unveiled in 1993, featured a large “U” in black and orange. The “U” was housing a black “I,” which, in its turn, was placed over the letter “S.”

1997

In 1997, the Idaho State Bengals logo went through a complete overhaul. There was now the lettering “Bengals Idaho State” given in three lines and a tiger’s head below it.

2019

The logo, created for the athletic program of the Idaho State University in 2019 looks more powerful than any other badge of the Bengals. This is the black, orange, and white image of a Bengal tiger, which doesn’t look even close to the one from the badge introduced in 1997. The new predator is more geometric and sharp, with nice accents on the minimalistic contours and thick lines of the drawing. The emblem has no lettering accompanying it.
