Eastern Michigan Eagles are the athletic teams of the sports programs from the Eastern Michigan University in the USA. The program is composed of 19 men’s and women’s sports teams and is best known for its Cross Country division, which almost won the championship in the 1940s.
Over the previous 90 years, the Eastern Michigan Eagles logo has gone through at least six notable modifications.
In 1929, the team adopted a logo featuring the side view of a Native American and a circle with the text “Hurons.”
In 1991, it was replaced by a black-and-white eagle flying over the lettering “Eagles.”
The 1995 logo featured the large “E” with a cartoonish eagle on the forefront.
The logo for Eastern Michigan Eagles, created in 2002, featured a very minimalistic and powerful concept, composed of only one symbol — the bold geometric letter “E” executed in dark green color and set on a white background without any outline. The clean contours of the letter and its dark yet intense and rich color palette made the whole badge look professional and strong.
After two more notable modifications (in 2002 and 2003), Eastern Michigan Eagles logo acquired its current form – the green capital “E.”
The redesign of 2013 simplified the visual identity concept of Eastern Michigan Eagles, bringing back the minimalist badge, designed in 2002. The bold straight letter “E” in a custom geometric typeface, was back in its intense grass green color and set on a white background with no additional elements.
The Eastern Michigan University sponsors men’s and women’s basketball teams. The men’s team has competed in four NCAA Division I tournaments and reached the Sweet Sixteen in 1991. The women’s team started playing in 1977.
The team was fielded in 1891. Since then, it has achieved five undefeated seasons. While the Eagles are often named among the worst Division I FBS schools, they had their comparatively successful period of time from 1925 through 1939.
