The iconic snorting bull logo the Durham Bulls use now was adopted in the 1980s and hasn’t changed much since then.

Meaning and history

The Bulls are the Triple-A minor league baseball team with a long and illustrious history. They started playing in 1902 under the name of the Durham Tobacconists. When the movie Bull Durham appeared in the late 1980s, the club attracted a considerable interest and even broke the record in attendance for a Class-A team (over 300,000 for a season).

Symbol

Interestingly enough, the Bulls didn’t have a logo as such until the 1980s. This doesn’t mean that they didn’t have any distinctive marks on their uniforms, though. Throughout the first 80 years of their history, they wore hats with a big script “B,” while the shirts featured the lettering “Bulls” across the chest.

Emblem

After around ten years when the Bulls didn’t have a chance to play, they started their life again with a new emblem. The Durham Bulls logo features a snorting bull running through a large slab-serif letter “D.” Both the bull and the letter have a burnt orange outline.

Colors

The color making the palette of the Durham Bulls logo unique is burnt orange. While the three other colors – blue, black, and white – can be found in many sports logos, this shade of orange is comparatively rare.
