Some of the elements that have been often used on the logo of the Italian football club Benevento throughout its history are a wild boar, a witch, and stripes colored red and yellow.

Meaning and history

Benevento is not among the most famous Italian football clubs, but it has a pretty intense history, full of ups and downs. The club was established at the end of1929, and for the first few seasons was working hard enough to reach the third-tier Italian football league, which at that time was called Prima Divisione.

The club was fully reorganized in 2005, and started its way up from the third-division league, getting its promotion toSerie B (the second tier) in 2016. A year after the team’s successful participation led it toSerie A, but it didn’t last long, and in 2021 Benevento returned to Serie B.

What is Benevento?
Benevento is the name of a professional football club from Italy, which was established in the Campania province in 1929. Today Benevento has Stadio Ciro Vigorito as its home ground, Oresto Vigorito as the President, and Fabio Cannavaroas the manager.

1953 — 1962

Old versions of the Benevento logo featured a wild boar with a ribbon tied around its body. The emblem was borrowed from the coat of arms of the club’s home city, Benevento.

1965 — 1990

The boat from the previous badge of the Benevento club was redrawn in a more friendly and kind way on the badge, created for the team in 1966. The new version featured a light pink boar, drawn in profile against a classy crest with a square top part. The crest had a bright vertically striped background in yellow and red, the palette, which stayed with the club until today.

1990 — 2002

Whatever the reason, the Benevento logo subsequently dropped the pig and replaced it by another symbol of the city, a witch on a broom. The emblem was inspired by the 13th-century legends of the witches of Benevento.

Benevento is often referred to as the “city of witches,” and for a reason. In fact, back in the 7th century pagan rituals took place here, which were regarded by local Christians as witchcraft.

2002 — 2005

From the one hand, the team was fully justified when using a heraldic symbol of the place it was based – that’s what most Italian football clubs did.

2005 — Today

The current emblem features a shield shape with the name of the club on the top.

Colors

The official colors of the team’s palette are yellow and red. They have been used on the logo since 1965, at least.
