What is Alaska Airlines?
Alaska Airlines is an American airline based in Seattle, Washington. It is the fifth-largest airline in the United States in terms of passenger traffic and operates a large network of domestic and international flights. Known for its friendly service, Alaska Airlines offers a range of amenities and is particularly popular for its extensive routes in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.
The first logo of Alaska Airlines featured bold white lettering in two levels, written across a horizontally-oriented dark-red rectangular banner. The text was set in the uppercase of a slanted sans-serif typeface, with the top line enlarged and emboldened, compared to the bottom one.
The redesign of 1972 has switched the color palette of the Alaska Airlines logo to blue and white, making it more logical in terms of the weather conditions in the state. It was still the horizontally-oriented rectangle in a solid color, with a white two-leveled inscription, but the typeface was switched to a more geometric one, and both levels were set in the same size.
In 1990 Alaska Airlines introduced its new logo, which stayed with the air carrier for two decades. The badge boasted a stylized dark blue lettering in a slanted cursive font with thick lines and angular contours of the narrowed title case characters. This time the wordmark was written against a plain white background with no framing.
The redesign of 2014 has slightly changed the composition of the logo, enlarging the “Alaska” part from the previous version and placing it above the rewritten “Airlines”, executed in the uppercase of a modern sans-serif typeface. Both lines were executed in the same shade of dark blue.
In 2016 the color palette and contours of the Alaska Airlines logo were refined, getting smoother and lighter, which created a friendly mood and reflected the evolution of the company and its ability to change according to the needs of its customers. The blue got brighter and colder, which added even more Alaskan colorite.
