The logo of the exercise program Zumba was inspired by the dynamism and optimistic style of the dance itself.

Meaning and history

Back in 1998, Alberto “Beto” Pérez, Colombian dancer and choreographer, established Zumba. While he was always on the watch for various new series of moves, the program’s history started on a day in 1998, when he forgot to bring the typical music to his aerobics class (he worked as an aerobics instructor). Instead, he had Latin dance music, which he used for this class. The new music required new techniques, which later formed Zumba and the so-called Rumbacize. The trademark is the property of Zumba Fitness, LLC.

What is Zumba Fitness?
Zumba Fitness is the name of a fitness program, which was established at the end of the 1990s by the Colombian dancer Beto Perez. The program is based on Latin-inspired choreography, mixed with cardio workouts and energetic music. Today Zumba Fitness program is available in almost 200 countries across the globe.

1998 — now

The brightest spot of the Zumba logo is the neon yellow circle housing a stylized human figure. The figure is performing a spectacular dance move. The way the person is depicted is highly abstract – just a couple of strokes and the head. And yet, it manages to have absorbed the energy, motion, and positive mood of the dance.

Font

The glyphs appear to have been written by hand in a great hurry. Looks like someone was so eager to dance that they were unwilling to take the trouble and write properly. And yet, if you take a closer look, you will certainly notice that the shape of the glyphs is the result of hard work and artistic inspiration, and that the wordmark seamlessly merges with the logo.

Colors

Yellow, which is often mentioned as the most optimistic and youthful color, perfectly fits the essence of the brand. To reinforce the effect, the authors of the Zumba logo have chosen a specifically vivid neon shade.
