YPF Logo PNG

YPF stands for Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales. It is an Argentine energy company operating in oil and gas exploration and production. Also, Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales deals with the transportation, refining, and marketing of gas and petroleum products.

Meaning and history

The company’s origins can be traced back to 1907, when oil was found in the vicinity of the city of Comodoro Rivadavia in Chubut.

1922 — 1998

One of the oldest versions of the YPF logo dates back to 1992. It showcases the three letters of the brand’s name inside a double ring. The letters are black and are adjusted to fit the shape of the rings, which slightly damages legibility.
The rings are of a light grayish shade of blue. The design has been inspired by the flag of Argentina, where two pale blue stripes are separated from each other by a white field.

1998 — 2008

A simpler and far better legible version. The only thing it has in common with its predecessor is the brand’s name in black. However, the glyphs look different – they have been straightened and have adopted tiny serifs.
Below, there are two stripes: a thin yellow one and a thick dark blue one. Often, the logo was used without the stripes. You can also come across a version, where the wordmark is dark blue.

2008 — present

This is basically a simplified version of the previous logo. The yellow and blue stripes were dropped altogether.
The letters preserved their shape but changed the color. Sometimes, the glyphs are white and are positioned inside a blue square. Also, the glyphs can be blue. In this case, they are given over the plain white background.
There is also a more complicated version, in which the Flag of Argentina is placed to the left of the wordmark. Here, the wordmark is inside the blue rectangle.

Font

The type is a rather unpretentious and highly legible bold all-caps one. The tiny serifs add a unique touch.

Colors

The main color of the YPF logo is a rather bright shade of blue, which is neither very pale nor very dark. In the extended version, the colors of the Flag of Argentina are added.
