While choosing a dog for the logo would have been pretty natural for the athletic teams of Wofford College, it was only in 2015 that they actually decided to place a living creature on their emblem.

What are Wofford Terriers?
Wofford Terriers is the name of an athletic program from Wofford College, a private educational institution located in South Carolina. The program is composed of 18 men’s and women’s teams, which compete in the first division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, in various sports disciplines.
The very first badge for the Wofford Terriers athletic program was created in 1925 and stayed with the teams for thirty years. It was a white roundel in a black outline with the black and white image of a terrier, drawn in profile facing to the left. There was no additional lettering on the original medallion.
The redesign of 1955introduced a cool and humorous badge, which was used by the program for another thirty years. It was a caricature of a black and white terrier with a comic grimace, wearing a yellow cap with a black “W” on it, and a yellow collar with white spikes around it.
The badge, used by the Wofford Terriers teams in the middle of the 1980s featured a geometric futuristic image of a terrier, executed in black and white solid and sharp elements, and placed on a transparent background without any framing or additional lettering. It was quite a futuristic image, which made the program stand out in the list of its competitors.
The 18 sports teams sponsored by Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, compete as the Terriers.
The current Wofford Terriers logo, which was adopted in 2015, showcases the head of a dog in black and white. On the neck, there is a brown collar. The creature does not seem to be in the mood for playing – it rather looks as if it was going to bite.
