Vizio is a privately held American company that designs and markets televisions and soundbars. The company was founded in 2002 and is based in Irvine, California, USA. The Company originally manufactured tablets, cell phones, and computers, but has completely refocused. Vizio’s manufacturing is located in Mexico, China, and Vietnam under agreements with ODM assemblers in these countries.

Meaning and history

In addition to the high-tech design of its products, the Vizio brand also boasts an extremely unique story of creation. The launch of the Vizio project was an attempt for William Wang, the founder of the company, to survive the shock: in 2000, he was one of the 96 surviving passengers of a Singapore Airlines airplane that went off the runway on takeoff and crashed into a construction site. Eighty-three people died then.

After this shock, Wang realized that no business challenge was worth the stress and decided that risk was the way to go. So he started producing flat-panel TVs and registered the brand.

The first name of the company, however, was V Inc. A successful marketing campaign, effective management, and high production standards allowed the company to rise rapidly on the wave of the IT boom of the early 2000s. Thus, after only 4 years, the company’s profit amounted to $700 million, and in 2007 exceeded $2 billion, the same year the corporation was renamed Vizio Inc.

Today it is a huge company known worldwide for its TVs, audio systems with Dolby Atmos 3D sound support, laptops, and tablets, ranking number one in the U.S. in the number of HDTVs and stereos sold.

And in February 2024, it became known that the American company that operates a network of supermarkets, Walmart plans to acquire the manufacturer of TV sets Vizio for $2 billion.

What is VIZIO?
VIZIO is the name of an American company founded in California in 2002 by William Wang, a Chinese American born in Taiwan. The company produces various appliances, but the most famous Vizio product is SmartCast TVs, based on a platform designed to access online entertainment.

In terms of visual identity, Vizio is also very progressive. And even though 2024 the company still uses the logo, designed for it in 2004, it still looks super trendy and actual.

2002 – 2004

The original logo of the company was created when its name was V Inc. featured a bold and brutal geometric lettering in black, with the “VINC” inscription set in one size. Also, there was no extra spacing between the two parts of the naming, but the “V” was modified, with a solid black triangle placed inside its negative space.

2004 – Today

After the official rename of the company to Vizio, the logo was redesigned too, but the emblem with the triangle in the “V” was in use for several more years. Later, in 2010, the emblem was also redrawn, having the character extended and the top edges of the bars and the triangle arched down. As for the primary logo, it is an uppercase lettering in a custom sans-serif typeface with futuristic contours of the characters and straight cuts of the bars.

Font and color

The medium-weight uppercase lettering from the primary Vizio logo is set in a custom sans-serif typeface, which looks somewhat close to such commercial fonts as Babak, Shary, or Kalash, but with significant modifications.

As for the color palette of the Vizio visual identity, it is based on black, an always actual shade, which represents professionalism, progressiveness, confidence, and reliability of a company.
