Madame Clicquot (a widow – “veuve” in French – of Francoise-Marie Clicquot, son of Philippe), whose name the brand bears, is considered to be one of the first business women of the modern era.
Several elements of Madame Clicquot original 1805 marketing campaign are still used and celebrated by the brand today, as she had a perfect marketing instinct. The Veuve Clicquot label combines its anchor heritage mark with beautifully set typography.
The anchor is a Christian symbol for hope and was used before the invention of labels. Using it on Veuve Clicquot’s logo symbolizes faithfulness of the brand to its roots and history.
A symbol of shooting star on the cork celebrates the comet of 1811 and adding Madame Clicquot initials VCP (Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin).
The most recognizable thing about the Veuve Clicquot logo is it’s color. Bright yellow, close to orange, label makes the brand stand out from its competitors. Veuve Clicquot’s signature label started appearing on bottles around 1835 and was officially trademarked in 1877.
