What is UNESA?
UNESA is an abbreviation standing for the Universitas Negeri Surabaya, which is the State University of Surabaya, a major public university of Indonesia, established in the middle of the 1960s. Today UNESA consists of seven faculties: Pedagogy, Languages and Arts, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Law, Engineering, Sports Sciences, and Economics.

In terms of visual identity, UNESA is quite consistent and loyal — the university still uses the badge, designed for it at the very beginning of its history. This circular badge looks stable and pretty minimalistic, lacking decorative elements and using a clean modern font for its lettering.

1964 – Today

The UNESA logo is composed of a yellow and white graphical element,’ placed in the middle of a solid blue roundel, and accompanied by a white sans-serif lettering, written around its perimeter. The emblem of the university depicts a white triangular tower with a small red peak, and two stylized yellow wings with elongated and curved lines and pointed ends. This elegant and sophisticated element is balanced by a clean and simple sans-serif font, used for the white medium-weight characters, framing the badge.

Font and color

The minimalistic distinctive lettering from the primary UNESA logo is set in a modern sans-serif font with simple shapes of the characters and clean contours. The closest fonts to the one, used in this insignia, are, probably, Myriad Semi Extended Bold, or Rolphie 10 Black Half Condensed, with the letters placed pretty far from each other, adding lightness to the composition.

As for the color palette of the UNESA visual identity, it is based on a calm and intense combination of blue, white, and yellow, with a small red accent on top of the graphical element. Blue is a symbol of professionalism and stability, while yellow stands for energy and development, and white represents loyalty and reliability. As for the red shade here, it symbolizes passion for learning and the power of knowledge.
