TCU Horned Frogs Logo PNG
The varsity teams competing at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, are known as the TCU Horned Frogs.
The words “horned frog” allude to the Texas horned lizard also known under the name of the “horned frog.” The story of the teams’ nickname and mascot started in 1897 – it was then that the creature appeared on the cover of the first AddRan yearbook. In 1915, it was already part of the university’s original seal. Since then, the mascot has been renamed more than once, while the way it looks on the TCU Horned Frogs logo has gone through numerous modifications.
For instance, the logo adopted in 1995 features a grey horned lizard with black trim and black spots. The creature faces to the right and bears a pretty wicked expression on its muzzle. Above the head, the lettering “TCU” can be seen.
Currently, the university uses a simpler monogram logo.
On the original logo, there’s a realistic drawing of a horned frog, although this particular variety looks more like an iguana. They used mostly dark blue and white, as well as placed the acronym ‘TCU’ in front of its body.
It’s the same concept, but this frog is less believable, nuanced and more imposing and mean. The horns and scales are more pronounced throughout its body. The acronym is still there, although it’s now visible on the body.
A purely acronym emblem was adopted in 1977. The letters here were composed of rough blocky parts of the color dark blue. The ‘T’ stood taller than the rest of these characters, and its cap extended above them, as well. All three were tilted.
The 1994 variant had the letters arranged in an arched formation instead. They also were a normal ‘college serif’ now. They all were skewed to make them look a part of some unseen multifaceted figure.
They added more facets to these letters in 1997 and otherwise reshaped them slightly. The color took on a bluer look, compared to the previous purplish style. The double layers of white and blue were added.
In 2012, a darker, almost black color was adopted instead.
By 2013, the outlines were scrapped, although the letters became much bolder instead. The color turned to a bright purple shade this time.
The Texas Christian University sponsors a competitive athletic program that comprises 18 teams competing mostly in the Big 12 Conference. The range of sports varies from softball to football, baseball, and basketball, to name just a few. All the teams share the same logo, so the TCU Horned Frogs football logo is the same as the monogram described above.
