Meaning and history

Stoli, fondly abbreviated from Stolichnaya, has a history rich in tradition, innovation, and occasional disputes. Emerging from the heart of Russia, Stoli’s story began in the early 1900s, embodying Russian vodka craftsmanship.

Initially, the brand was state-controlled during the Soviet era, with its iconic recipe guarded closely. Stolichnaya quickly garnered attention in the 1950s and 60s, earning accolades and setting itself apart with its premium quality.

However, the 1990s saw the dawn of significant change. The dissolution of the Soviet Union led to a period of contention regarding Stoli’s ownership. Yuri Shefler’s SPI Group eventually secured the rights to the Stolichnaya brand outside of Russia in the early 2000s, propelling Stoli into global markets with vigor.

Yet, the ownership narrative wasn’t without its complexities. Russia’s state-owned company, FKP Sojuzplodoimport, contended the brand rights, initiating a series of legal battles that spanned across multiple continents. 2008 – Today

The logo showcases the word “Stoli” written in an artful, fluid script. Dominated by a bold red hue, the typography exhibits a sense of movement, with the “S” and the “l” displaying pronounced loops. The “S” begins with an open-ended curve, and the “t” features a non-traditional design where its cross merges seamlessly with the adjacent “o”. The “l” has an elongated tail, curling towards the bottom. The logo is punctuated with a small, encircled “R”, symbolizing its registered trademark status, situated at the upper right of the “i”.
