Meaning and history

Ravn Alaska, an American airline, was founded in Anchorage, Alaska, back in 1948 and was originally called Era Aviation. The company operates regional flights within the state and is the largest player in its own segment.

Ravn Alaska’s main transit hub and headquarters is Anchorage’s Ted Stevens International Airport. The strong transit network allows Ravn Alaska to fly exclusively to all of the cities in the state with adequate runways. Ravn Alaska’s fleet of 16 small and medium-sized aircraft are optimized for the segment and fully meet the passenger capacity needs of the service area.

What is Ravn Alaska?
Ravn Alaska is the name of a pretty small yet reputable air carrier from the United a states, which was established in the end of the 1940s as Era Aviation. Today the company operates flights across Alaska and has a fleet of 16 aircraft.

Before 2014

The old Ravn Alaska logo was dominated by the word “Ravn” in black. It featured a rather light serif with elegant yet classic letters. The capitalized word “Alaska” below was given in red. It was smaller and lighter. To the right, a red emblem could be seen. It was made up of three shapes that could be described as feathers or swooshes.

2014 – 2020

The redesign of 2014 slightly refined and softened the Ravn Alaska visual identity, adding the “Air” part to the main logotype, and placing the emblem a bit lower. The upper level of the logo now featured a smooth sans-serif RavnAir inscription in bold sleek lines and slightly rounded ends of the bars. The bottom, “Alaska”, the line got enlarged and emboldened and was now followed by a three feathers emblem, which got smaller than on the previous version.

2020 – Today

The Ravn Alaska logo, introduced in 2020, features an intense rectangular banner in burgundy with the gray silhouette of a flying bird on its left side and two levels of the inscription over its main part. The upper line boasts a white lowercase “Ravn” in a classy sans-serif typeface with the letters bold and enlarged. Under the white wordmark, the smaller and more delicate “Alaska” is set in gray lowercase, using the same font, but with the contours thinner.

Font and Color

The bold and stable lettering from the primary badge of the Ravn Alaska air carrier is set in the lowercase of a traditional sans-serif typeface. The closest fonts to the one, used in this insignia, are, probably, Neue Haas Grotesk Display 65 Medium, or Basic Commercial Std Bold.
As for the color palette of the Ravn Alaska visual identity, it is based on the combination of burgundy, white, and gray, which make up a very confident and professional look, which also evokes a sense of elegance and excellence.
