Obama Logo PNG

The presidential campaign designed and conducted for Barack Obama in 2008 was highly memorable. One of the reasons for this was the Obama logo, which represented a stylized “O”.

Meaning and history

The emblem was created by the Sender LLC design firm headquartered in Chicago. The head of the project was Sol Sender, the firm’s creative director. His team consisted of three designers, including Amanda Gentry and Andy Keene. The project started at the end of 2006, the logo was launched in February 2007.

Symbol

Barack Obama logo sports the letter “O”, divided in two parts. The upper half is blue, while below it there are three red stripes. In the original version of the emblem, the stripes were symmetrical, but eventually the designers decided to give the emblem a little bit more dimension.

Emblem ideas that were rejected

There were almost 10 options to choose from. We can mention a rather simple blue wordmark and several versions that featured a “b” character resembling the figure “8”. Also, the design team suggested a symbol that looked like an exclamation mark with two lines, blue and red.

Font

The simple serif font is actually a clipped version of the Requiem typeface. It was presumably created by John Slabyk and Scott Thomas who were responsible for the typography of the logo.

Color

The color scheme included two shades of blue (a darker and a lighter one), red, and white.

Campaign logo

Initially, the Obama logo was created as the symbol of Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. In the course of presidential election, it was one of the most recognizable symbols. The logo was used again for the reelection campaign.

The logotype was designed by Sender LLC, a Chicago based design studio, and approved by David Axelrod, the main Obama’s campaign manager. Several designers worked on it: Amanda Gentry and Andy Keene with project managers Colin Carter and Steve Juras.

As they explain, they chose letter ‘O’ as the symbol of Obama, and implemented the idea of a rising sun and a brand new day. The rising sun symbolizes the hope for a new life and the light that traverses the current political problems. The color combination is symbolic, too. Red, blue and white colors refer to the USA national flag.

The logo appeared to be very popular, and it was used not only for the election campaign, but for other Obama’s projects, too. It was customized for 12 various identity groups as well as for every USA state with 50 additional versions

Care logo

As it has been mentioned, the Obama logo which was used in the election campaign became an all-time symbol of the president and his projects. The initial symbol was slightly changed and turned into Obama care logo.

Obama Care is just an alternative name of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – healthcare legislation that was established in March 2010. This branch of legislation focuses on health insurance, health care costs, and other aspects. The law was called so to express president’s concerns over the health situation in the country.

How does Obama care logo differs from the original symbol? In some logotype variations, the sun in the middle of the image radiates the shines, which makes it look lighter. Besides, the logo comes with the name spelled under the circle.

Obama care logo reception was also positive (what concerned some people was the name of the law), and some people noted that it was designed professionally. It underlines patriotism with hope, freshness and new opportunities above it.
