Meaning and history

While the “demon” theme used to be very pronounced in the earlier versions of the Northwestern State Demons logo, the school has eventually left only a couple of subtle hints. This has made the emblem more socially acceptable.

1979 – 1986

The logo developed for the athletic program of Northwestern State University in 1979 featured the head of a demon facing forward.

2000

In 2000, the demon theme grew slightly less apparent. The updated emblem depicted a burning trident over the map of Louisiana.

2008

The same approach, with subtle alterations, was used on the 2008 logo.

2014 – Today

Eventually, in 2014, the current typographic logo was adopted.
