Since 2000, the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks logo has gone through at least three modifications before it took its current form.
The old emblem introduced in 2000 featured a stylized lumberjack player with an axe in his hands. The 2005 version depicted only the axe and the team name, while the lumberjack made a comeback in 2014.
In 2014 the Norther Arizona Lumberjacks visual identity was redesigned. The image of a man in a yellow shirt was added above the futuristic blue “NAU” monogram, which was also underlined by the uppercase “Lumberjacks” in a modern Sans-serif font. The negative space in the “A” from the monogram was stylized as a sharp yellow triangular mountain in a white outline. As for the man, he was drawn running forward and holding an ax in his hand.
Eventually, the university opted for a logo where the letters “NAU” were placed inside an abstract shape reminding an axe.
