Meaning and history

Nash Motors was established in 1916 by Charles W. Nash, a former president of General Motors. Located in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the company initially set out to produce high-quality automobiles. Among its key achievements were the introduction of several innovative features, such as the “unibody” construction, which increased the structural rigidity of the cars. Nash also pioneered in bringing weatherproofing and heating systems into cars, offering a greater level of comfort to passengers. The firm even ventured into producing military vehicles during World War II.

By the early 1950s, Nash Motors became a part of Nash-Kelvinator Corporation. In 1954, a pivotal merger with Hudson Motor Car Company led to the formation of the American Motors Corporation (AMC). Nash models continued to be produced under the AMC umbrella until 1957, when the Nash name was phased out. The legacy of Nash Motors lives on in various forms, but it formally ceased to exist as a separate entity after the formation of AMC.

1916 – 1942

The first Nash Motors logo from the beginning of the 20th century, boasted a vertically-oriented geometric crest in yellow and brown. The crest was divided into four segments, where two of them had a pattern with wide rays, and the other two resembled fish scales of roof shingles. The name of the company was written in white capitals on a small rectangular banner, which overlapped the solid brown circle in the center of the crest.

1942 – 1954

The redesign of 1942 has created a new logo for Nash Motors. It looked exactly like the Cadillac badge, with the massive gold crest decorated by two sharp elements on its top part, and a gold and red pattern looking like a radiator bar of a car. The name of the automaker was written in bold white script over a solid blue fragment in the center of the logo.
