Montana Grizzlies and Lady Griz are the athletic teams representing the University of Montana in Missoula.
While the previous version of the Montana Grizzlies logo was pretty heavy and cluttered, the current one looks more dynamic and clear, although it is in no way minimalistic.
The crest introduced in 1996 featured a rather realistic grizzly bear walking forward. The name of the team could be seen above.
On the current version of the Montana Grizzlies logo, only the lettering “Griz” can be seen. The nickname of the team is given in an artistic type imitating handwriting. The upward slope and the streak below the lettering add dynamism.
Coached by Bobby Hauck, the football team uses Washington–Grizzly Stadium as its home arena. The program began play in 1897.
The women’s basketball team nicknamed Lady Griz is among the most popular women’s basketball teams in the US. As of 2019, they have played in the NCAA Tournament Second round seven times and have made 21 NCAA Tournament appearances.
The men’s basketball team played in the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen in 1975. They have competed in 12 NCAA Tournaments.
